SAORI Sewing – Make 2 Garments from your Handwoven Cloth

Saturday, December 1, 2018
9 am – 5 pm

Handmade Saori Weaving Studio
Belton, TX

In this class, students will be making 2 garments from their previously woven cloth using patterns from the Beginners’ SAORI Clothing Design Book. We will make a Placemat top and A-Line Vest. No prior SAORI sewing experience is required, however, it is expected that you have previously sewn with a sewing machine and are comfortable with the operation of your own machine.

Students will need to bring 2 pieces of handwoven cloth. Piece one should be 45-60 cm wide and long enough for your (or your recipient’s) bust measurement plus 28 cm. Piece two should be 30-45 cm wide (approximately 30 cm for S/M, 35 cm for L, 40 cm for XL, and 45 cm for XXL) and a minimum of 232 cm long for a waist length vest (longer if you prefer a longer vest). Additionally, students should bring a sewing machine if possible (some machines are available at the studio if you request one at registration), matching thread, scissors, sewing pins/clips, bobbins, seam ripper, etc.

If you do not currently have handwoven cloth, sign up for our regular Saori weaving classes NOW! You will have plenty of time to make the required cloth before this class!

Beginning SAORI Sewing Workshop fees: $100
If you do not already own the Beginners’ SAORI Clothing Design book, then there will be an additional $26 to purchase this book due at the workshop.

Class fee is payable at time of registration. Space is limited so sign up early!

We have coffee, tea, and water. Please bring your own lunch/snacks or other beverages. Microwave and refrigerator are available.

For questions, please call 256-542-8363.

If you need overnight accommodations the night before and/or the night after the event, please contact Sarah at 256-542-8363.

Super Kai 2016 Weaving Retreat: August 19-21, 2016

SAORI Kai

Sunday, Dec. 2nd

9 am – 4 pm

Handmade Saori Weaving Studio
Belton, TX

Kai is a Japanese word meaning group or gathering. In SAORI we use Kai to describe a gathering of weavers (and potential weavers) to socialize, share, and inspire.

At Handmade Saori, our Kais start with introcuctions and weaving. If you have your own loom, we ask that you bring it so studio looms can be used by people flying in for the kai or people who don’t have a loom. After a morning of weaving, visiting, and sharing, we will take a break for a potluck lunch. Jay will provide a main dish and you should bring your favorite shareable item.

After lunch we will have a SAORI Fashion Show and the sharing portion of Kai! If you have clothing items or accessories that you would like to include in the fashion show, please bring them. Fashion Shows are actually a grown-up version of playing dress-up and all are encouraged to participate and try items on.

Registration is REQUIRED for Kai, but there is no charge to attend. Please click the button below to register.

We have coffee, tea, and water. Please bring other beverages you may want. Microwave, stove, and refrigerator are available for your potluck items or beverages.

For questions, please call 256-542-8363.

If you need overnight accommodations the night before and/or the night after the event, please contact Sarah at 256-542-8363.
